Why is there always laughter in the background of sitcoms on TV?
In EVERY sitcom TV show there is, there is always laughter in the background, why is this? It is so annoying and pointless, I would rather just watch the TV show without the annoying unneeded laughter. So can someone please tell me why they always have the laughter in the background?
It encourages people who are stupid enough to watch sit-coms to laugh at things that aren't particularly funny. Joining in with the crowd sort of thing. Some people just start laughing if it seems everyone else is. If they don't laugh along with everyone they feel stupid cos they must have missed a joke. So it's a stupid way to make stupid people pretend not to be stupid by laughing at stupid things.

A lot of the older shows use this format. I don't know if it is because many of the early shows had a live audience while taping and it just became the norm for tv viewing. I don't know if it would be considered along the same lines as subliminal messaging but I think most people become accustomed to it and are more than likely to watch these types of shows rather than thise with no music or laugh tapes.
The producers are trying to make you think that everything is funny, hence, the canned laughter. Another irritating thing (to me) is the background music. Some music directors must be trying to make a name for themselves by dubbing in the music so loud that half the actor/actress lines cannot be heard.
It sets the mood, sitcoms without laughter tend to have viewers that are tense, but the phsyical sound of laughing loosens everyone up. It makes it easier to relax and enjoy, just like suspenseful music in action movies puts people in the moment.
because the actors are performing in front of an live audience
