Updates on laughter & humor?
Has there been any other reasons lately in the Psychology and/or Philosophy World about why we laugh and what makes something humorous?
I read in a psychology book that use of humor can be adaptive because it allows you to distance yourself from the event/experience, helping you to cultivate meta-perspectives (i.e., not getting stuck in one [suffering] way of seeing things). You laugh at things that are personally meaningful for you. You laugh sometimes when those personally meaningful things are uncomfortable or shameful to you. You laugh when you want to feel or express group belonging. Laughter also seems to be related to curiosity, like when you laugh when you don't get something. Maybe laughter helps to catalog and consolidate those perplexing experiences.
I bet there are (or could be created) numerous reasons for laughter and humor!
I heard that laughter isn't a response you can control, even in a situation like that where you don't want to be touched?
I'm feeling a little down this evening.
