Isn't it time canned laughter is phased out? also, did all of the old bbc sitcoms use it from it's invention?
I agree, canned laughter is a pain in the neck, however, it was an import from the USA networks... Unfortunately, both the BBC and ITV used it with reckless abandon from the late 60's onwards...
Sadly the BBC latched on to this import from the USA. It MAY, work there on their simple one liners, but the British comedies are humourous situations built up over the length of the programme, and constant laughter by an audience, clearly not relating to the show are just a nuisance. Report Abuse
yes strange how the people in the media especially in the bbc have nothing in common with the outlook and attitude of the viewers, the latest is to have music all the way through even when the actors are talking, what works in digital dolby in a £1m sound system in the studio doesn't do so well on a 6x3 speaker in a TV
