Is laughter the key to me being happy?
My friend and I were getting deep into conversation about my life. I had some issues growing up and still have some now...with low self-esteem issues and just how I feel about myself. She notice I laughed after every time I would talk about my issues. She would be like "you have no reason to laugh after that" but you know it's just my way of not thinking about what others say about me and when I'm stressing out. Some people really really brought me down but some how I'm still happy....what do you think?
Some say that laughter is the best medicine. I heard about a guy who cured his own cancer by watching funny movies for days. Why shouldn't it work for mental health issues as well? You and I are a lot alike. I also had problems growing up, and I do have self-esteem issues today. Like you, I choose to laugh about those kinds of things because it somehow makes it feel like less of an issue. I always say if you can't laugh at yourself, then you can't truly laugh at all. I'm a loner and I have tons of problems making friends, so I often make jokes about how I stalk people, leaping from tree to tree with a camera. They know I'm just joking. It's my way of letting people know that I'm secure with my issue and also my way of connecting with them.
Do what feels right for you. If laughter is your key to being happy, you're the only one who's going to know.
