Wisdom is the ability to understand that both these emotions are fleeting in nature. True Wisdom lies beyond.

but tears it asunder perhaps is more
not being convicted of its sins
and one can act evilly as if that works for one
or one can anguish about one's problems
and refuse to acknowledget the mercy and grace of god that could heal the heart

Your question implies that the world is experienced in terms of extremes. I suggest the following thought. Suppose one could place themselves squarely in the middle of both. The point at which laughter touches anguish, and anguish experiences laughter. At that point does laughter languish in anguish or does anguish give way to laughter?
